By the time you read this I’ll be in Chicago, fully immersed in STORY 2012. Story is a conference for creatives in every field including writers, artists, designers, film makers, musicians and more.
Normally I don’t have an opportunity to go to these conferences because of the cost, including travel and hotel. But thankfully this year I got free tickets because I am a staff writer at Prodigal Magazine. This covered both Katie and I so we decided to make the trip an early birthday present for me (If you’re wondering, my birthday is the Sept. 25th and I accept cash, check & credit cards.)
I’m super excited about this opportunity but not mainly for the conference. I’m excited about the people I’m going to get to meet. Some of us have already organized a meetup through Twitter. I’ll be able to have dinner about 25 amazing people whose blogs I read regularly.
This is so much different from the conferences I’ve been to in the past. I’m not much of a networker so if I didn’t go to the conference with you, I wasn’t interacting with you. But social media has opened up a whole new world in this respect. I’ve already made plans with people I’ve never met in my life. It’s awesome!
The other part I’m really excited about is visiting Chicago. I can’t count how many people have told me it’s their favorite city in the world. I can’t wait to see the sights with my wife and eat way more delicious food than I probably should.
But I want to turn it over to you while I’m gone.
Have you every met up with people through Twitter? How about at a conference? What was that experience like? Share your story!
